Bridge Testing

Today for inquiry we were testing our speghetti bridges and my group started off first. We put the bridge on a stable platform and had eight bricks to weigh down the bridge to make it snap, the aim of this activity was to see how many brick's it would take to hold and the type of bridge, for example there was a beam bridge, truss bridge, or some other bridges. Our speghetti bridge held three bricks and broke on the fourth one and the span of the bridge was 26cm, the next group had a span of 28cm and held only one brick, the next group had a span of 26.5cm and set a new record with five bricks. The next group held one brick and the span of their bridge was 42cm, the next group had the biggest bridge because their spam was 50cm and held two bricks. The group after that one had a small bridge with 16cm of spam and held three bricks so that was pretty cool to watch, there were heaps of of other groups that did testing on their bridges but the bridge that was most successful was Lyric, Tiava, Mataio, and Julians bridge because their one held all eight bricks and didn't move once, there structure was really good and really strong because they built a Truss bridge, and a Truss bridge has triangles for in its design. Triangles are the strongest shape and that is why their bridge could hold all eight bricks.

Special Duffy Assambly

Today we had a special Duffy assambly and we had a special duffy speaker which was our special guest Michel Mulipola, he is a illustrator, he illustrates comic books, School Journals, and he also illustrates WWE comics. Michel Mulipola is also a professional Wrestler and has won two championship belts, he has been to LA, Las Vegas, and has met heaps of superstar wrestlers like Dwayne the Rock Johnson, Stone cold steve austin, the Undertaker, and many more. Michel Mulipola's favourite superhero is the Green Lantern because he said that " The Green Lantern stands out to him because all the other superheros have primary colours like red, yellow, and blue but The Green Lantern has green, white and black colours whch were different to all the others. Michel Mulipola said he like what he does, he said he could draw whatever he wanted whenever he wanted and he said this " My pencil is like Green Lanterns ring whatever he thinks out comes out of his ring and makes it life like, just like my pencil whatever I think of I draw and make it come to life.

Wero Trip

Yesterday students from LS2 went on a trip to the Vector Wero Whitewater Rafting Park, as we walked through the entrance there was a huge artificial lake with rapids and something they called the pump drop which was the highest and the deepest whitewater rafting drop in New Zealand. When we got in we were waiting for the guides to set up the rafts, while we were waiting one of the guides took us to watch two videos, one was the Legend Of Maui and how New Zealand came to be and the safety video. After that we all put on wet suits on, a jacket, wet boots, and a life jacket then we jumped into groups of six and juped in a raft. The first activity we did was river crossing, our insrtructor taught us the safest and not safest ways to cross a river then we tried it ourselves, when we crossed it there was a rapid and it was pretty strong but we were put into groups of three out of the group of six and crossed it by making a triangle because it is the strongest shape. There was a technique we used and it was to grab the person in front by the shoulders of his or her life jacket and lean foward to help keep the person in front up, and we also went slow, grabing people by the shoulders of thier life jacket is a good technique of pulling someone back in if they fall out of the raft but when you pull them back up push them back down under the water because it will be easier because the life jacket will float back up.
The next activity was the rafting part, we started off on a escalator type thing but for kyaks then we went down and did a 360 turn going backwards towards the start of the artificial rapid river, and this time it was deep. The last activity we did was one of the best activitys was jumping in and floating down the fast rapid river, kind of like the lazy river but fast. Yesterday our instructor taught us about water safety and the dangers of a river, Yesterday I learnt how to pull someone back into the raft by using the shoulder parts of the life jacket, and I also learnt how to cross a river properly by knowing the signs. here are some signs, if the water in a river is above your waist it is to deep to cross, if you chuck something in the river and you have to jog after it the river is not safe to cross or jump in because of the rapid stream of water rushing through.

Tech

Today for tech we have been working on our art designs and have been looking for patterns and designs from your culture to put our art. The peices of art have five lines which can be sqaures, rectangles, or triangles and in them are your patterns or designs that you have chosen which relates to your culture.

Last HIIT Session

Today was our last HIIT training for this term, we have been doing HIIT for the pas fifteen weeks and have been doing it twice a week.  Our excercises were Tap step, push ups, star jumps, and sit ups. The people from AUT university are coming in tommorow to do somemore tests on us to see if we have improved. Our excercises have been improving every week and the sessions have been going good and every week they change. The AUT university named this program Pau Te Hau which means ''Get Puffed" that is the word we use and say every time during our HIIT sessions. Some of the excrcises are easy and some are hard, the easiest one for me would be tap step because all you have to do is move your legs side to side by tapping your heels together aswell as moving your arms up and down hitting your thighs. Our goal every time we do our HIIT sessions is to "Pau Te Hau" Get Puffed, and every single one of us have succeded in doing that. Our other goal is to get everyone into the red zone and encourage each other and the people how are in the yellow, green, or blue zone to push try harder to get into the red zone.

Exponents

Today for maths we have been learning about exponents. Our task today was to answer eighteen exponent questions and then choose three of them to do a DLO or a google slide on to explain how to do exponents. I chose questions one, twelve, and three because they were all cubed exponents. The question I found hard was question twelve because I am not that good at my eight times table. Today I learnt how to do exponents properly and familiarise myself with them.

Labeling

Today for reading our group Ponui and Pakatoa have been learning how to lable the parts of pages in a non - fiction book. The first two we did was with Miss Kirkpatrick then we did one together as a group. It was really easy to do. Today I learnt that an inset is a small graphic representation such as a map, picture, or a piece of writing set within a page.

Wheel Words

Today for reading our group did wheel words. When we play wheel words we set a timer to ten minutes, and that's all the time we get to find as many words as we can. I found eight out of thirty five 8/35 words, I think thirty five words are a lot of words to find in ten minutes. I managed to find 4/12 four letter words, 3/11 five letter words, 1/6 six letter words.

Rugby Union Competition

Yesterday we went to the Rugby Union Interschool competition, we played five games and only lost one which was against Pt. England, the rest of the games we had one. The school's we played were
Pt. England, Glenn Innes, St Pierres, Pt England Barbarian, and Bailey Road School, the best game we played was against St Pierres because we scored 11 - 2 agianst them. Our first game we played which was against Pt. England was the hardest game we played out of the five different schools we played. At rugby union my goal was to score at least one try and I achieved that goal by putting as much effort in as I can. Yesterday I really enjoyed playing against the other schools and I also enjoyed playing a good, fair, and fun game.

Orchestra

Today students from LS2 went to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Hall to watch a performance by the Auckland Dance Project, St Kents/Ngatapawae, Opera singer, and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra group. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra group played three pieces of music and one of the pieces were fimiliar because it was called Romeo & Juliet. In these performences there were four different Sections or Instruments that were played which were the Brass, Woodwind, String, and the percussion family. When we were at the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Town Hall, the thing that caught my eye was the lights and also these big gigantic tube instrument things at the back of the hall. My favourite part of this experience was when a opera singer came out and sung an opera song, This was my first time going on this trip but.
